It is a much relief for the Solomon Islands government sponsored students studying at the University of the South Pacific (USP) Laucala Campus in Fiji ,after they received their March allowances today.
This was confirmed to Solomon Fresh-Beat Online by many of the students who have received their allowances this afternoon.
Also a cross check with the Ministry of Education today confirmed the news.
Over the past weeks, students have carried their frustration in the media over the delay of their monthly (March) allowances.
“Today was a relief day for us thanks to the government,” one student told SFB Online.
Another student says they can now be able to settle their rental dues for the month, pay for their food and other supplies and budget for their transportation and other essential needs.
Meanwhile, SIG students taking up studies at other institutions like Fiji National University (FNU) and Fiji School of Medicine (FSM) had received theirs yesterday.
Students expressed gratitude to the Education attaché in Fiji and the SIG for all their hard work and effort in ensuring everyone received their March allowances.
The issue with the delay of students’ allowances is not new for Government funded students studying in Fiji – an issue that needs to be addressed competently.
