Solomon Islands now have a new Prime Minister.
He is Small Malaita MP Rick Hou.
Mr Hou polled a total of 33 votes, a landslide victory that brings back the former DCCG into power but under a new coalition name.
The Honiara Hotel group and their Candidate Moffat Fugui polled 16 votes. One vote was spoilt.
The political wrangling which saw the downfall of former Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare commenced with the resignation of eight members of the ruling DCCG.
The former parliamentary opposition group moved in to join them which resulted in the elimination of Sogavare last week in a Motion of No Confidence.
The Opposition group who are mostly Democratic Alliance Party Members then withdrew their support to join the remaining DCCG members, boosting the numerical strength again and putting forward a new candidate for the PM’s post.
Rick Hou will captain the former DCCG boat for the remaining year. Solomon Islands next National General election is expected in early 2019.
