(SIFF MEDIA): After a month of training, Head Coach Batram Suri, Assistance Coach Eddie Rukumana with the support of SIFF Technical Director Felipe Vega-Arango have decided to name a 25 man provisional squad.

“So far my observation of the players is they are improving day by day during our training sessions.

“I am very pleased with players coming from the provinces because most of them are now playing with some big clubs in Honiara because of their stint with the national U-19 team,” Suri said.

Lone foreign inclusion in the provisional squad, European based Marcus Chan will join the team next month.

“Marcus Chan’s addition to the team is a bonus for us since he is coming in with a professional way of doing things.

“He has contacted me few days ago expressing his intention of joining us for the World Cup qualifiers,” Coach Suri stated.

However, Technical Director Felipe Vega-Arango stressed the squad is not final as the coaching team will still look out for potential players in the HFA Leagues and School League.

Solomon Islands is drawn in Group B of the OFC U-19 Championship alongside Vanuatu, Fiji and New Caledonia.

The national U-19 side take on Melanesian arch rivals New Caledonia on August 6 in both country’s opening group fixture.

Oceania has two qualifying spots to the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
