Quest for missing Asian crew still on

THE SEARCH for the missing Asian crew from a sinking tug boat last month on Central Island is still on.

Deputy Police Commissioner Operations, Gabriel Manelusi told local reporters in a police weekly media conference yesterday.

He said currently a local diving company known as ‘Tulagi Dives’ has been engaged by the logging company – GNU Brothers Limited on a mission to search for the missing man.

Mr Manelusi said the search is progressing but the weather did not permit and also the tides and current and the scene was too deep.

“This week we approach the Naval captain who attend the G74 Anniversary in Honiara but unfortunately they don’t have the capacity as well since they can only dive down beyond 20 metres but the depth on the sinking tug boat is 64 metres.

“Police investigation is continuing and we will work closely with the private diving company in the search mission,” he said.

The logging company – GNU Brothers Limited is footing the bill for the diving (Tulagi Dives) search mission.
