The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Fire and Rescue Officers are investigating how and why the Abba Wholesale and Retail Shop at China Town in Honiara was scorched to ashes in the early hours (4.45am) of Thursday 17 May 2018.

Fire fighters responded to the incident but could not save the shop as it engulfed in flames.

RSIPF Supervising Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi said though RSIPF Fire and Rescue officers could not save the shop they manage to prevent the fire spreading to nearby buildings.

He said the cause of fire is still not known at this stage but investigation into the matter is continuing.

Mr. Manelusi appealed to anyone who may have any information about the cause of fire to come forward to police.

Information can be provided to Honiara Central Police Station on phone number 23304 or 22999.

I suggest we have stations for the fire extinguishing vehicles along the length of the Honiara city. Say one station at Rove, Point cruz (fire house bus stop area – the unoccupied space there), one at Kukum and one at Henderson Int Airport. This will lessen the time to attend to a fire-call and for once be successful in saving more than 50% asset. Also we take into account the condition of the road which will be challenging and pose further danger to the public when a filled fire truck speeds on it. Just a thought.
