In the light of the country’s poor fiscal situation, the Opposition Leader Hon Manasseh Maelanga calls on the Solomon Islands Democratic Coalition for Change Government to outline the government’s $204-million outstanding claims and outstanding invoices for Constituency Development Funds, Rural Transport Initiative Programme, Transport Initiative Programme and the National Transport Fund.

Hon Manasseh Maelanga said it is imperative that the Minister of Finance and Treasury Hon Manasseh Sogavare provide an outline of all the government’s $204-million outstanding claims and outstanding invoices for Constituency Development Funds, Rural Transport Initiative Programme, Transport Initiative Programme and the National Transport Fund for transparency and accountability purposes.

He said the Opposition wants to ensure that ‘politically motivated payments’ such as the $50-million dollar payment to Levers Solomons Limited for the Hell’s Point land, approved by the former Prime Minister and now Finance and Treasury Minister is not camouflaged under outstanding claims or invoices for approved development project payments.

Hon Maelanga said the Prime Minister in dealing with big issues of public expenditure must try as much as possible to evade influence by major political elements by ensuring maximum transparency and accountability.
