Police has arrested and charged a total of 76 people in relation to the logging dispute at Vasara Camp, Rendova Island in the Western Province.
The arrest was made on Monday this week.
However, Police says the number of arrest has increased from 59 to 76 after the communities surrendered voluntarily especially those involved in the criminal activities.
In a Police Media conference today Police Commissioner Mathew Varley says the 76 people are being charged with offences ranging from unlawful assembly to violent behavior.
Mr Varley says of the 76 charged, 6 have been bailed including 5 juveniles and one adult after they appeared in the Gizo Magistrate Court today.
“The remaining 70 people remain remanded in custody for 14 days,” he adds.
He says investigation is ongoing into the matter adding further charges will be laid at a later date.
